Checklist for moving to progressions based reporting
Step 1 - Get an overview
Now that your school has made the decision to shift to progressions based reporting, read all articles within this Progressions Based Reporting Guide.
Step 2 - Decide on your school's goals
LINC-ED offers schools a set of Level 1-8 Curriculum Achievement Objective goals and the English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP) criteria. In addition, there are levelled micro goals for Levels 1-4 in Numeracy and Algebra, Reading and Writing. The sets of goals provided by LINC-ED are aligned to the curriculum levels.
The first step in your process as a school is to review these goals and edit them should you wish. Your school may choose to create completely new sets of goals to reflect your school's unique curriculum.
Adding, editing and deleting goals can be actioned by your site administrator(s) from within your school's LINC-ED site.
NOTE: Ensure you are confident the goals you have available meet your school's needs BEFORE turning these on as progressions for your teachers and students to access.
Step 3 - Set your school's expectations
Review the levels set for the LINC-ED templated goals. These can be adjusted by visiting Admin tools> Menu> Levels/ Expectations Overview.
Step 4 - Turn on 'Progressions' as the main way of reporting to parents
To do this go to Admin tools> Menu> School Options> Select’ Progressions based’ from the Progress Reporting style options.
Note: Your school can still make use of goals and share them with parents without turning this on but parents/caregivers will not be able to see the radial chart progress indicators.
Step 5 - Determine where teachers and students will share evidence against goals
Your school will need to decide the page(s) that will be set up for the sharing of evidence against goals. This could be your school's Learning page(s) OR you may choose to set up a specific "Goals" page. The goals will show as tags against the posts made on this page(s).
Step 6 - Decide what parents can see
Go to Admin tools> Menu> What can parents see?> Goals> Turn settings on/off as required.
Frequently Asked Questions
How will this new style of reporting build on our existing National Standards data?
If you have progressions based goals for Maths, Reading and Writing then the new data will be a continuation of the old. If you have goals for Maths, Reading and Writing that are not levelled (e.g. they are grouped by attribute/skill such as Comprehension) then please contact the LINC-ED team, via the helpdesk, to request a change to progressions based goals in these subjects.
What will happen with the goals we currently have in our site and are using?
You can choose to remove these (any existing data will be hidden) or to use them alongside the new sets of goals.
What will the printed reports look like?
Currently, printed reports will continue to show your written comments and the currently set goals. We will be adding print support for the progressions progress indicators in the upcoming months.
Help! I have deleted a set of goals by accident - what should I do?
Relax, breathe and contact the LINC-ED helpdesk team by entering a ticket asking for these to be reinstated.
Our school would like personalised professional development on progressions based reporting. What can LINC-ED offer?
LINC-ED offers Professional Development Packages (Publication Password - LINC-ED) and can work with school's leadership teams to support them on their reporting journey. PLD can be accessed via Google Hangout or face-to-face.
